The screams of pain could be heard across the City Ground last night as Nottingham Forest star striker Britt Assombalonga badly injured his knee and was carried off.

With the Reds already 3-0 up, with Assombalonga getting the first goal against Wigan, the injury to the £5.5m frontman left the ground feeling flat as fans worried about the length of time he will be out for.

With Chris Cohen and Andy Reid already being long-term injury absentees this season, Forest will be desperate for good news on Assombalonga.

The suggestion immediately after the game was that he had dislocated his knee, with boss Dougie Freedman revealing a scan would be needed to know for sure.

Often a scan cannot take place immediately as you have to wait for the swelling to reduce so the exact diagnosis might not be known today.

But Assombalonga was rushed to the QMC Hospital straight away last night, needing oxygen to help with the pain as he was stretchered off the pitch.

This picture above shows Emelia Pierrepont getting a picture of herself with Assombalonga still in his kit with a brace around his knee, but still able to smile while sat up in a chair with his leg raised while waiting to be seen.

Emelia asked him how bad his knee was and he is understood to have told her it was dislocated but that he was 'alright' and it wasn't 'too bad'.

Since the incident, Forest fans have flooded onto social media to send their best wishes for a speedy recovery and also to find out how bad the injury is and how long he will be out for.

He will certainly miss the trip to Blackpool at the weekend as Dougie Freedman aims to make it three out of three since becoming manager.
