NOTTINGHAM Forest are poised to pounce for former England keeper Robert Green, as the future of Lee Camp hangs in the balance.
Alex McLeish has put the QPR stopper at the top of his January shopping list, with long-serving Camp out of contract in the summer – and yet to agree a new deal.
Green, who is out of favour at Loftus Road having made only nine starts since his summer switch to Rangers, could move to the City Ground on loan, as McLeish looks to get the Reds' promotion push back on track.
Any move would be dependant on the Premier League club agreeing to pay a large portion of the 32-year-old's wages.
But McLeish believes Green's experience – having made more than 450 appearances for Norwich, West Ham and Rangers, as well as winning 12 England caps – could be vital as Forest look to plug a defence that has conceded eight goals in the three matches since the new manager arrived.
McLeish is also believed to be pondering an approach for Lukasz Fabianski, the Arsenal keeper, if a deal cannot be agreed for Green.
Fabianski, 27, has had an injury this season and has not been in first-team reckoning with the Gunners, who he has made 50 appearances for since joining in 2007 from Legia Warsaw.
He is also out of contract in the summer and may view a move to Forest, even on loan with a view to a permanent move, as the chance to revive his career – having failed to ever establish himself as a regular first choice under Arsene Wenger.
Fabianski has played 21 times for Poland and could be reunited with former international team-mate Radi Majewski at the City Ground.
Reports that Camp will be allowed to leave for free in January are believed to be wide of the mark – although the club may yet be willing to cash in if they receive an offer for him before the end of the month.
Rumours of interest from Premier League Reading are not thought to have any foundation, although the 28-year-old is likely to attract plenty of attention from clubs in the top two divisions, whether he leaves in January or on a Bosman free transfer when his contract expires in the summer.
Camp has been a popular figure at the City Ground since joining from QPR, initially on loan, before making the move permanent in 2009 and has made 195 appearances for the Reds.
Camp established himself as a Northern Ireland international last season. But the Derby-born player was also frustrated when Forest refused to sell him to the then newly-promoted, top-flight Swansea 18 months ago.
Forest also believe understudy Karl Darlow has bags of potential and it is understood he could be recalled from his loan spell at Walsall and may even be in contention for a starting spot when Peterborough visit on Saturday.
