A man has been sentenced for growing cannabis after officers sniffed out the drug at his home. Inspector Mark Webster and PC Ian Dickson were leaving work at Mansfield Woodhouse police station around 12.45pm on 9 September 2012 when smelt the pungent odour of cannabis in the air. Following the smell, they headed to Gardiners Court, a small development opposite the police station. There they found Steven Droushiotis, 19, who admitted he was growing cannabis to pay off a debt, showing off the spare bedroom where 17 plants, valued at between £4,500 and £8,500, were found. Droushiotis, appeared at Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday 15 January where he was given an eight-month prison sentence, which was suspended for 18 months and ordered to carry out 150 hours unpaid work. The drugs and paraphernalia were seized and destroyed.
