A PERSON has died after being hit by a train near Bulwell this afternoon.

Police were called to Moor Bridge crossing around 1.10pm today (Saturday, February 9).

An East Midlands Trains spokesman said the line was closed for aroun an hour.

He said: "Train services between Nottingham and Mansfield were disrupted earlier today due to a person hit by a train in the Bulwell area. Our immediate thoughts are with the family of the person involved.

"The incident happened around 1.10pm and involved the 12.37pm Mansfield Woodhouse to Nottingham service.

"As a result of the incident, there were delays of up to 60 minutes between Nottingham and Mansfield. Replacement bus services were in operation and some services between Nottingham and Worksop were diverted.

"Normal services resumed at 2.50pm after the incident was dealt with by emergency services. We would like to apologise to passengers for the disruption to their services."

The incident happened at the same crossing where teenager Lindsey Inger was hit by a tram in November, and later died of her injuries. Jean Hoggart, 65, and her grandson Michael Dawson, 7, died at the same tram and rail crossing four years ago.
