MANSFIELD Town went goal crazy this afternoon as they thumped Barrow 8-1 at the One Call Stadium.
Matt Green led the way with a hat-trick – two from the penalty spot – while Lee Stevenson bagged a brace as the Stags made it seven wins from their last nine Blue Square Bet Premier matches to close in on the play-offs.
It was another nightmare for Barrow, who were thumped 7-0 in this same fixture last season.
But for Mansfield, it built on the 5-0 victory against Dartford seven days earlier and sets them up perfectly for a trip to promotion rivals Newport on Tuesday night.
Stevenson gave the Stags the lead after eight minutes before Danny L Rowe equalised from the penalty spot.
But from there, Stags romped to victory as Green scored from the spot himself, Colin Daniel added a third and then Green made it 4-1 on 32 minutes. Adam Murray ensured the hosts were 5-1 up at the break.
Another Green penalty shortly after half-time extended the lead before another clinical Stevenson strike and Anthony Howell header wrapped matters up.
