Notts County: Players will be revved up for Bury clash, says Chris Kiwomya

NOTTS County caretaker boss Chris Kiwomya has promised it won't be Groundhog Day at Meadow Lane tonight.

The Magpies' last two games in League One against Crewe and Walsall have gone exactly the same way.

They have started slowly, conceded a penalty, gone 1-0 down, fought back in the second half and scored to rescue a 1-1 draw.

But Kiwomya insists he is going to get the Notts players revved up to explode out of the blocks against Bury.

"I don't want us to start slow, I want us to start quick and be on the front foot at home and then go on from there," he said.

"We've been slow out of the blocks so we've got to make sure that doesn't happen again.

"We have got to give the fans something to shout about early on in the game."

Kiwomya is still looking for his first win since he took temporary charge of the Magpies almost three weeks ago, after those two draws against Crewe and Walsall and a 2-0 defeat at Stevenage.

But a home game against Bury, who are in bad form and in 22nd place in the table, is a great chance for him to lead Notts to three points, which will help his chances of getting the job permanently.

"Every game is a perfect opportunity to get that win," said Kiwomya.

"I look to try to win every game and hopefully we can do that, but we have to put a consistent 90 minutes together – that's what I'm looking for."

Notts are 11 points outside the play-offs in 11th place ahead of facing the Shakers and Kiwomya knows they must start winning games to close the gap on the top six and keep their promotion hopes alive.

"We've still got a chance for the play-offs and the next three or four games are going to be vitally important," he said.

"If we can get a win, it keeps us close and we can go on a good run."
