NOTTS County boss Keith Curle may try to snap up Nottingham Forest striker David McGoldrick in January.

It is a cheeky move by Curle because the 24-year-old is currently on loan at Coventry City and the Magpies face them in League One today.

McGoldrick is bang in form for the Sky Blues, having scored six goals in 11 games, but his loan at the Ricoh Arena ends in the new year and he does not look to have a future at the City Ground.

McGoldrick came through the youth ranks at Notts and began his pro career there in 2004.

"He is a player I like and it will be interesting to see exactly what his plans are come January," said Curle. "We looked at him in the summer, but he was outside what I wanted to spend."

After joining the Reds for £1m three years ago from Southampton, McGoldrick is out of contract with them at the end of the season and Forest boss Sean O'Driscoll has hinted he is not in his plans.

"At the minute, he is better off where he is," he said. "His confidence will be high and if he can put himself in the shop window that would benefit everyone."

Notts are still chasing ex-Chelsea striker Mikael Forssell, but Curle said: "We're not miles apart in the financial negotiations, but we are apart."

The Magpies go to Coventry a record 13 away league games unbeaten, but the Blues are unbeaten in five games under new boss Mark Robins.

"I think they call it 'the new manager syndrome' when someone goes in and has an immediate impact," added Curle. "I know Mark from his playing days. He's come back into management and is doing very well.

"I think they could be a force to be reckoned with under Mark."

Curle is still confident Notts can extend their unbeaten away run – and will be demanding better from his players after their midweek horror show against Sheffield United in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy when they lost 4-1 at Meadow Lane.

Magpies' young striker Tyrell Waite, 18, has joined Blue Square Bet Premier side Nuneaton Town on a one-month loan.
