A WEST Bridgford man has been sent to prison and banned from driving after he failed to stop and report an accident.
David Knowland was in a BMW when there was an accident in Nottingham Road, Ravenshead, on May 14 last year.
Damage was caused to a wheelie bin, gate and grass verge, Nottingham Magistrates' Court heard.
Knowland pleaded guilty to not stopping at the scene or reporting the accident at a police station, and driving without due care and attention.
The court heard the vehicle was in a dangerous position in the dark and this could have led to a serious accident.
He was also said to have lied to police originally. There was a suggestion he had been drinking.
Justices jailed the 23-year-old, of Loughborough Road, to 12 weeks in prison because the offences were so serious.
They banned him from driving for six months.
