A STAB vest, an inspector's cap and handcuffs are among the items stolen from police vehicles, it has been revealed.
Thefts in the past three years also include an officer's encrypted BlackBerry phone, car keys, a breathalyser and a police helmet and jacket.
Notts Police listed the items in response to a Freedom Of Information request.
A force spokesman said the stab vest was stolen from a marked police car last year while two officers were on a drugs raid.
He said: "The officers travelled to the scene in a marked police vehicle, which was inadvertently left insecure.
"The officers were inside the premises when an unknown offender or offenders took a stab-proof vest from the car."
Meanwhile the theft of an inspector's cap in 2010 occurred as two officers took a prisoner home.
The list – which also includes three sat navs, an iPod and a handbag – covers items taken from all police vehicles in 2010, 2011 and 2012. Other items taken include two fake Gucci bags, a coat, fake mobile phones, number plates and a Ford badge.
The Taxpayers' Alliance, which campaigns for greater efficiency within publicly-funded organisations, said the incidents were worrying.
Campaign manager Robert Oxley said: "Taxpayers will worry that police giving out crime prevention advice can't seem to avoid becoming victims themselves.
"Thefts from forces costs taxpayers money and this bill could easily be reduced.
"At a time when money is tight police can't afford to keep replacing expensive kit."
