NOTTS County extended their unbeaten run to seven league games at Crawley Town in League One today.
The Magpies drew 0-0 with the Reds on their first-ever visit to Broadfield Stadium.
And they were indebted to a good save from their no.1 goalkeeper Bartosz Bialkowski to deny midfielder Matt Sparrow in the first half and a great last-ditch block by Gary Liddle that stopped Mike Jones scoring in the second half.
Young Notts defender Haydn Hollis also deflected the ball onto his own bar as the home side piled pressure on the Magpies after the break.
Notts were missing two key men because centre-back Dean Leacock was suspended and Alan Judge was injured.
Manny Smith replaced Leacock at the heart of the back-four, joining Hollis, Liddle and Alan Sheehan in defence, in front of Bialkowski.
Jeff Hughes replaced Judge in midfield to play alongside Hamza Bencherif, who made his first league start in 11 months, captain Neal Bishop, Andre Boucaud and Jamal Campbell-Ryce, while on-loan Leicester City striker Jacob Blyth made his second start in attack.
The home side were first to threaten on ten minutes, striker Jamie Proctor curling a shot towards the top-right corner from 20 yards that Bialkowski parried past his left-hand post.
The Magpies hit back a minute later, Campbell-Ryce crossing dangerously into the penalty area from the right wing, but Crawley defender Mustapha Dumbuya beat Blyth to the ball in the air and then blocked Hughes' rebound volley.
Campbell-Ryce then tried to lob Crawley goalkeeper Paul Jones from 30 yards, but he backpedalled and made an easy save to deny the Notts winger.
Crawley midfielder Jake Taylor then tested Bialkowski with a header from ten yards on 24 minutes and the Magpies' no.1 made a great save to stop the Reds scoring two minutes later, racing off his goal-line to block a close-range shot from Sparrow, who had seized onto a defence-splitting pass from Dannie Bulman.
Joe Walsh then fired just wide for the home side on 30 minutes and Hughes forced Jones into a save with a powerful low shot from 30 yards a minute later.
Sparrow then blazed over the bar – and the away end – from inside the box on 42 minutes, after Notts failed to clear a free-kick, and Sheehan created a chance for Bencherif on 45 minutes, but his tame shot was blocked and the game was still goal-less.
Adams was Crawley's biggest threat in the first half and the winger had the first chance of the second half.
The ball broke to him inside the box on 54 minutes and he swept it at goal and fortunately for Notts Bialkowski made a good save low down to his left.
Blyth then over hit a pass for Campbell-Ryce inside the box on 56 minutes, after a surging run forward, and Bishop drove a long-range shot over the bar three minutes later.
Crawley went close to breaking the deadlock on 65 minutes.
Sparrow sent Dumbuya racing away down the right wing and he whipped a dangerous cross into the box for Jones, who looked certain to score from just a few yards out, but Liddle made a great last-ditch block to divert his shot over the bar.
Notts survived another big scare just four minutes later, as Proctor drove a cross into the six-yard box that Hollis turned against his own bar.
The Magpies then threw on Enoch Showunmi for Blyth on 73 minutes and he was quickly in the action, forcing Jones into a good save with a powerful shot from inside the penalty area.
Notts also subbed Campbell-Ryce for John Cofie and the on-loan Manchester United striker had their last chance of the game on 92 minutes, but ballooned a shot well over the bar from 20 yards.
