THE drive to recruit 300 apprenticeships in 100 days is being run by the Post in conjunction with four other sponsors.

They are Derbyshire and Notts Chamber of Commerce, the National Apprenticeship Service, Nottingham City Council and the Notts City and County Employment and Skills Board.

We are looking for firms to pledge to take on one or more apprentices.

Post acting editor Charles Walker said: "We are delighted to launch this year's campaign. We hope that companies and organisations in Notts will be supportive this year as they have been before."

George Cowcher, chief executive of the chamber, said: "Apprenticeships are an essential part of creating the workforce our economy demands. Having good calibre, highly-skilled young employees is the key to giving the business sector in Notts a sustainable future, so it is important for businesses to sign up to the 300-in-100 campaign and pledge to create an apprenticeship placement."

David Kirkham, skills board director, said: "Apprenticeships can provide quality training matched to the needs of business. They are flexible and can allow a mixture of on-the-job and classroom training, giving the right balance between technical and practical skills development."

Councillor Nick McDonald said: "We want Nottingham to become known for apprenticeships and to be a leading city for them."
