TWO Notts teenagers clubbed together to organise a fundraising lunch for ChildLine.
Amar Verma, 16, and Jamie Newton, 17, also stumped up the cash to buy dessert for the 100 people who turned up for the meal at Laguna in Mount Street in the city centre.
The meal was held yesterday and followed by a raffle and the pair hope it will raise upwards of £1,000.
Amar, who goes to Trent College, said he was inspired to raise money for the charity after thinking of the people it would help.
He added: "There are young people like me who need the support of people like ChildLine and I just wanted to do what I could.
"Jamie and I came up with the idea of having a dinner – we've had a lot of support from our parents in getting it all set up and I'm really pleased that people have turned out.
"I'd like to do more things like this in the future – it's a good cause and it's been good organising it, so why not?"
Jamie, who goes to Nottingham High School, said that he was pleased the funds would make a difference, adding: "There are people who are a lot less fortunate than we are and we've got to try and support people like that as much as possible.
"I've seen statistics about the number of people ChildLine help and it makes you realise how important the work they do is."
Proud parent Maureen Newton, from Woodthorpe, said: "It was entirely Jamie and Amar's idea and it's only taken a couple of months for everything to be sorted including a raffle and the prizes.
"We've given them a bit of a push at times to get things sorted and supported them, but the end result is fantastic."
Amar's mum Mamta, of West Bridgford, agreed.
She said: "I'm very proud of what the boys have done and to raise all this money for a good cause is fantastic."
And the boys were also praised by Sharon King, NSPCC community fundraising manager, who said: "It just goes to show that not all young people are naughty when these two have put this event on and look set to raise a lot of money from it. It's a fantastic thing to see really because all the money that is raised will make a big difference.
"We rely on donations to function and help provide support for young people when they are in need."
