THE NUMBER of older people who die following a hip fracture has fallen by a third in Nottingham's hospitals, according to a new report.
Frail, older people with hip fractures are also being treated sooner and spending less time in hospital.
The National Hip Fracture Database published yesterday shows the death rate at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH) following hip fractures has reduced from 10.4% in 2008 to 6.9% in 2012 - a fall of 35%.
Mr Andrew Taylor, Head of Trauma Surgery at NUH, said: "I am delighted that we are able to report this great improvement in the quality of care for our patients with hip fractures. We have a great team working together to get our patients back on their feet and restored to health as rapidly as possible."
The full report can be read on the National Hip Fracture Database at www.nhfd.co.uk.
