Notts County's away double is key to finishing in the play-offs

NOTTS County are in the last chance saloon, says Gary Liddle.

The Magpies still have a glimmer of hope of finishing in the play-offs in League One, after closing the gap on them to six points with a 1-0 home win against Scunthorpe United.

But they only have seven games left – and five of them are against teams in the top six.

They face fifth-placed Swindon Town and Brentford, who are second, away in their next two games and Liddle said: "We've still got the belief we can put a run of results together and make a final attempt.

"I know we're not fancied, but we'll give it a shot and we might just sneak in there.

"Beating Scunthorpe was a good result for us and gives us confidence for two tough games coming up away from home against Swindon and Brentford, who are obviously going well.

"If we have aspirations of making that final push then they are two games we need to get positive results from."

The Magpies have a good away record this season.

They were unbeaten on the road until the end of January and have only lost three times.

Liddle says that will give them confidence going to the County Ground and Griffin Park – and he insists all of the pressure is on their rivals.

"They are going to have to come at us and we've done really well away from home this season," he said. "We'll not be fancied on paper so the pressure will be on them."

The Magpies were written off after a poor 1-0 defeat against Preston on home soil last Tuesday, but Dean Leacock's late winner against Scunthorpe has kept their season alive.

"Our confidence was dented and a major reaction was needed," added Liddle.

"We knew we had to go out and do better and thankfully we got the win."
