WALKERS and horse riders are being warned to take care around a Notts village after wooden planks with metal screws in them were left hidden on a track. Notts Police said a dog walker found the improvised traps in Deerdale Lane, Bilsthorpe, yesterday. Officers went to investigate and found several of the traps placed in the sandy track and covered with leaves. It is thought they may have been left to deter off-road bikers from using the area but officers said they could also injure animals and walkers. Temporary Police Sergeant Matt Ward said: "We are asking everyone to take caution, as stepping on one of these wooden planks could cause considerable injury to you or your animals." He said no-one is known to have been hurt by the planks, but added the dog walker who found them turned away a horse rider who was about the ride down the lane. The route is a track that leads off the A614 towards what is known locally as 'The Desert'. Officers are working to try to work out who left the traps. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Notts Police on 101 quoting incident 600 of April 2 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
