ANDY Reid believes Nottingham Forest possess the best player outside of the Premier League in Lewis McGugan.
But the Irishman today warned that the Reds will need more than one hero if they are to achieve their play-off dreams.
Midfielder McGugan has netted five goals in five games to help fire Billy Davies' side firmly into the promotion reckoning.
Reid insists he is not surprised to see McGugan performing heroics, as he regards him as an incredible talent.
"It's not bad going at all, scoring five in five," said Reid. "It doesn't surprise me though. It doesn't surprise anyone here, I don't think.
"We all know what Lewis is capable of. He has more ability than anyone in the league, in my opinion.
"It's not a surprise that he is doing what he is doing now. He should have been doing it all season. He has that ability.
"When he gets his head right and he gets his mentality right, there is no better player in the league.
"If he scores in every game between now and the end of the season, it would be great, wouldn't it?"
But Reid says every Forest player must be at the top of their game in the final six matches of the campaign – starting against Blackpool tomorrow.
"When the manager came in he picked his team for the first game and he told the people that were not starting and who were not involved at all 'You could be the people who are heroes by the end of the season'," said Reid.
"He just said that he had picked the team that was going to start that match but, beyond that, it could be somebody who has not played for six or seven weeks who scores the vital goal in the play-offs, if we get there.
"Everyone is a part of things, we are all pulling in the same direction – and nobody knows who is going to be the hero between now and the end of the season.
"We will be delighted if somebody does prove to be the hero – of course we will.
"But it doesn't matter who it is. It might be important to you, if it ends up being you. The bigger picture is that we need loads of heroes.
"We need people not just to score goals, but to provide other vital moments.
"Look at the Hull game. We had Henri Lansbury clearing one off the line – Chris Cohen cleared another.
"They are just as important moments as the goals that are scored. There are loads of little moments that make up a good performance; that can add up to a win.
"Sometimes they are not picked up by fans, by the press or even by the opposition.
"But the players involved do know how important small moments can be. Small details can all add up to an important win."
