TEN-man Notts County lost 3-1 against Bournemouth in League One today.

Jeff Hughes gave the Magpies a dream start, scoring after less than two minutes at Dean Court.

But they could not hold onto their lead and trailed 2-1 at half-time on the south coast.

Former Notts loanee Matt Ritchie equalised for the home side on 17 minutes and striker Brett Pitman fired them in front midway through the first half.

The Magpies' misery was then made worse when Andre Boucaud was sent off in first-half injury time.

Ritchie doubled his tally in the closing minutes to inflict a third straight defeat on Notts.

Joss Labadie made his first start for the Magpies under new boss Chris Kiwomya, joining captain Neal Bishop, Boucaud, Jamal Campbell-Ryce and Hughes in midfield.

Notts were also boosted by the return of their no.1 goalkeeper Bartosz Bialkowski from a virus, while Julian Kelly, Dean Leacock, Gary Liddle and Alan Sheehan started in defence.

Striker Enoch Showunmi was named in attack.

Labadie made the goal for Hughes with a brilliant cross into the penalty area from the right wing that he headed past Cherries' goalkeeper Ryan Allsop from close range.

Allsop got a hand to the ball, but could not stop it hitting the back of the net.

Simon Francis then tested Bialkowski with a powerful low shot from the edge of the penalty area and Pitman dragged a shot wide of the Pole's left-hand post from 20 yards on eight minutes.

Bialkowski then tipped over a stinging shot from Ritchie on 11 minutes.

But he could not stop him scoring on 17 minutes as Ritchie seized onto Charlie Daniels' low left-wing cross and swept the ball under him and into the net.

Bournemouth completed a quick fight-back with a second goal on 26 minutes as Matt Tubbs set up Pitman to fire the ball past Bialkowski from just inside the box, but Notts complained Tubbs handled the ball.

Losing 2-1, the day got worse for the Magpies in injury time at the end of the first half when Boucaud was booked for a second time for a foul on Harry Arter and sent off.

It left Notts facing an uphill battle in the second half, but they started brightly and Labadie forced Allsop into a great save with a 20-yard free-kick on 52 minutes, the Bournemouth keeper tipping his effort away at full stretch to his left.

The Cherries then threatened to kill off the Magpies on 63 minutes, Harry Arter curling a good shot at goal from the edge of the box, but Bialkowski parried it away.

Campbell-Ryce then whipped a dangerous cross into the box from the left wing on 73 minutes, but it was just too far in front of Showunmi.

The Magpies' hopes of a comeback were ended on 85 minutes as Ritchie buried a shot inside Bialkowski's left-hand post from inside the box, from sub Lewis Grabban's cross.
