BARTON-in-Fabis in Bloom is celebrating the nationwide launch of Royal Horticultural Society Britain in Bloom by sowing seeds to create a children's edible herb and vegetable garden.
Children will plant seeds in a raised bed on Manor Road on Saturday.
The Edible Britain launch will see community gardening groups and schools create over 1,000 edible gardens in public spaces across the UK.
The RHS is distributing 30,000 seed packets, including chives, parsley, coriander, dill, garlic chives, sage, thyme, marigolds, nasturtiums, radishes, carrots, fennel, spring onions, spinach and red frills mustard.
Sue Davies, of Barton in Bloom, said: "The children will be planting their own vegetable plot, and will enjoy tending the plants through the summer and harvesting them in autumn.
"They will take home a bucket filled with compost and a seed potato to grow their own plant, and prizes will be awarded for the best crop in August."
Each year more than 300,000 people devote over 4.4 million hours to enhancing their community through Britain in Bloom. On average, groups plant 115,000 trees, 352,000 shrubs and 21.6 million plants and bulbs each year. In 2012, more than 1,200 groups participated in the wildflower-themed launch of Britain in Bloom.
