A GOTHAM woman outshone stylish competitors from around the globe at the Dubai World Cup horse race – as she was crowned winner of the hat competition.
Alisha Foley, 29, said she was over the moon to have won 'best hat' at the races with a striking orange headpiece created by her sister, Michelle Foley.
The Dubai World Cup – renowned as the world's richest horse race – has been held annually since 1996 at the Meydan Racecourse in Dubai.
Alisha, who runs MM and A books online, said: "I was in Dubai on holiday with my mum and we went to the races for a day out.
"I was wearing a hat my sister had made for me. She does hats as a bit of a hobby and is so good at it. The hat is orange and is simple but very stylish.
"The whole fashion thing is massive in Dubai and 600 people entered the hat competition."
Alisha said she was shocked and thrilled to have been picked as the winner.
She said: "The judges made a shortlist of 25 people. When they said I had won I just felt brilliant, it was a great experience. Going to Dubai was amazing in itself and the atmosphere at the races just topped the whole visit off."
The hat competition was held in an area of the races called the Jaguar Style Stakes.
Alisha added: "There was a huge crowd gathered for the competition and I was surprised by the amount of support I got seeing as I did not know anyone there. A lot of the entrants went for a Dubai theme, with their hats representing the various hotels. It was a really swanky competition and I can't believe I won."
Alisha's prizes include a weekend Jaguar driving experience, a mobile phone and various dinners while she was in Dubai.
She added: "The prizes are great but the title of winning 'best hat' was the best thing. My sister was so chuffed having designed the hat. She was at home and I called her to tell her and she was thrilled."
