YOANN Arquin was a super sub for Notts County today.

The Frenchman came off the bench and scored a second-half winner for the Magpies in a 3-1 victory against Colchester United at Meadow Lane in League One.

Jeff Hughes put the Magpies 1-0 ahead with his second goal in two games on 18 minutes, but striker Jabo Ibehre equalised for the visitors before half-time.

Arquin netted his ninth goal of the season on 77 minutes and fellow sub Romello Nangle then scored a third goal for Notts in injury time to complete a convincing win for Chris Kiwomya's side.

The Magpies sprang a big surprise by throwing youngsters Haydn Hollis, Curtis Thompson and Tyrell Waite into their team.

For Thompson and Waite it was their full debuts for the club.

Hollis joined Dean Leacock in central defence, Thompson started on the right wing and Waite was paired with Enoch Showunmi in attack.

Notts were missing suspended duo Alan Judge and Andre Boucaud and captain Neal Bishop was sidelined with a hamstring injury so Hughes and Joss Labadie started in central midfield and Jamal Campbell-Ryce was named on the left wing.

Bartosz Bialkowski began in goal, Gary Liddle started at right-back and Alan Sheehan was named at left-back.

The visitors were first to threaten and it took a good save from Bialkowski to deny Drey Wright on 14 minutes, the Pole tipping a powerful low shot from the midfielder past his left-hand post at full stretch.

Ibehre then wasted a great chance to score two minutes later, heading over the crossbar from inside the six-yard box from a corner.

It was a big let off for Notts and they quickly hit back.

Campbell-Ryce smashed a long-range shot just wide and Hughes then scored to put them 1-0 ahead, sliding in to convert a low cross into the six-yard box.

Waite then went close to doubling the Magpies' lead on 28 minutes.

Sheehan swung a free-kick into the penalty area that fell to him just inside the six-yard box and he steered the ball at goal, but Colchester goalkeeper Sam Walker parried it away.

It proved a vital save because the visitors equalised on 37 minutes, Ibehre tapping the ball into the net from close range at the far post from Andrew Bond's low cross.

There was then a long stoppage towards the end of the first half because of an injury to Colchester midfielder David Wright, following a challenge with Labadie, and he was eventually carried off on a stretcher and replaced by John-Joe O'Toole.

Both sides had chances early in the second half.

Leacock forced Walker into a save with a close-range header from a corner on 54 minutes and Bialkowski stopped a powerful long-range effort from Bond low at his near post two minutes later.

The Magpies' No.1 then parried away a curling 20-yard free-kick from Bradley Garmston on 66 minutes and Campbell-Ryce threatened to put Notts back in front with a thunderous shot from 30 yards on 70 minutes, but Walker parried it away at full stretch to his right.

The Magpies threw on Arquin for Waite on 74 minutes and it took him just three minutes to score, directing a great header past Walker from a corner, swung into the box by Sheehan.

There was still time for a third and Nangle netted it in the first minute of injury time, racing onto a pass from Showunmi inside the box and sweeping the ball past Walker from close range.
