Billy Davies: Nothing changes for Nottingham Forest despite defeat

BILLY Davies believes nothing has changed in Nottingham Forest's promotion chase.

The Reds slipped to a 1-0 defeat at Middlesbrough, after missing a host of first half opportunities. But, with Bolton, Palace and Brighton all also failing to win, Forest remain just a point outside of the play-off places with three games to go.

And the manager believes Forest have to remain positive, ahead of the visit of Barnsley this weekend.

"We are disappointed, but with the results elsewhere, nothing really changes for us. There will be twists and turns still. We are a point behind, going into the last three games," he said.

"We have no margin for error now, but we are still in there. We are a point outside of the play-offs with three games left.  I would have been happy to have that opportunity, if you told me I would when I first came back here.

"We are disappointed in the result and we have shot ourselves in the foot in the last few games, by losing.  But, again, I have to say that nothing changes. We are still in a good position, this is still in our own hands.

"Everyone beats everyone in this division, it is truly crazy. It is one of the craziest divisions in the world.  We cannot ask for any more than the situation we are in. With three games to go, I am happy to be in the position we are in.

"We have it all to play for and I believe it will be decided on the last day."

Davies did not feel Forest deserved to lose, on a night when a strike from Mustapha Carayol was enough to secure three points for Middlesbrough.

"We started as well as we have done in recent games. We controlled the first 30 minutes, but we had some good chances and we did not hit the target," said Davies.

"I thought our decision making was careless. And they then scored against the run of play through a moment of madness from us.

"It was totally against the run of play. After that we were jittery and were chasing things, which left us open at the back."
