TYRELL Waite scored his first goal for Notts County in the first half of their League One clash with Coventry City at Meadow Lane today. The young striker netted on 34 minutes to put the Magpies ahead in their final game of the season, and they led 1-0 at half-time. Notts were boosted by the return of their No.1 goalkeeper Bartosz Bialkowski to face the Sky Blues. They were otherwise unchanged from their 1-0 win at Doncaster Rovers, with match-winner Joss Labadie joining Jeff Hughes, Jamal Campbell-Ryce and Alan Judge in midfield. Yoann Arquin and Tyrell Waite started in attack and Gary Liddle, Dean Leacock, Krystian Pearce and Alan Sheehan were named in defence. Bialkowski was tested twice in the opening stages, parrying away a powerful 20-yard strike from Coventry striker Callum Wilson after less than a minute and a free-kick from the edge of the penalty area from the visitors' leading-scorer Carl Baker on six minutes. Notts hit back quickly and Campbell-Ryce swung a dangerous cross into the box from the right wing on 12 minutes that Waite won at the far post, but the visitors hacked the ball clear before Judge could pounce on it. It went quiet after those early chances and the Magpies did not threaten again until Sheehan tried his luck from 25 yards on 22 minutes, unleashing a venomous shot that was blocked. Wilson then fired wide of Bialkowski's left-hand post from long-range on 27 minutes. Waite was looking good for Notts and he did brilliantly to win the ball close to the penalty area on 30 minutes and cut it back to Campbell-Ryce, but ref David Webb got in his way as he tried to seize onto it for a shot. The Magpies soon broke the deadlock though as Waite pounced from close-range with a good header, after Coventry goalkeeper Chris Dunn parried a superb shot from Sheehan. Leacock then went close to doubling their lead minutes later, but Dunn saved his close-range effort, and Pearce headed narrowly over the crossbar as Notts finished the first half strongly.
