POLICE were called to a city school to investigate an alleged hate crime.

Officers attended Fernwood School, in Wollaton, yesterday as part of the inquiry into the incident in Wollaton Park.

No arrests had been made, a spokesman for Notts Police said.

The alleged crime took place on Friday evening but was not reported until yesterday.

The spokesman said: "Police were called to Fernwood School, in Wollaton, following a report of a hate crime. Officers investigating the incident have visited the school and inquiries are ongoing."

No one from the academy was available for comment when the Post contacted them yesterday afternoon.

Fernwood was turned into an academy in 2011, meaning it is no longer under the control of Nottingham City Council.

A parent, who did not want to named, said that when he picked his daughter up, there was a large group of students and police.

He said: "There was a confrontation in the morning and a group of students gathered outside at 3.10pm. There were a lot of police there."

Another parent said her son had told her there had been trouble at the school and police were called.

Meanwhile, several posts on Twitter referred to a confrontation between people at the school and police being called.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101.
