NOTTS County might be slashing their budget by 30 per cent for next season – but boss Chris Kiwomya is not worried.
He still believes he can build a strong team during the summer to have a crack at League One next season.
Kiwomya has already held talks with some of his targets, with a new striker being his top priority in the transfer market because the Magpies don't have any firepower.
And he is confident he can make Notts better with less cash.
He already has the spine of a good team, with the likes of Bartosz Bialkowski, Dean Leacock, Gary Liddle, Andre Boucaud and Neal Bishop all still under contract at Meadow Lane.
And there are also a lot of promising young players at the club, who Kiwomya is ready to throw in from the start of next season.
"We've got the foundation of a good team here," he said.
"If we can keep the majority of them and add in the right departments we will be very competitive next season and that is what I want to do.
"I've not come in here just to survive.
"No matter what money I get I'm going to try and build the strongest squad I can and be competitive.
"I don't want to be saying the budget is not the best, it's one of the lowest in the division or whatever, so we just have to try and survive, no.
"We've got good players in the team so I need to add in the right places."
Kiwomya also says he won't waste a penny of chairman Ray Trew's money.
"We will pay what we can afford and if we can't afford them we won't bring them in, the players have got to want to come to the club as well," he added.
"It's not about splashing out, it's all about what we can afford."
