AN INVESTIGATION has been launched after a train struck a concrete block – deliberately placed on the tracks.
The incident occurred at Bennerley Viaduct, near Langley Mill, at about 6pm on Wednesday, April 24.
PC Andrew Spiby, of British Transport Police, said it was only through luck that no one was injured.
"I cannot over-emphasise enough the dangers associated with this type of crime, it is vital that we find those responsible.
"Thankfully this time, through luck, no-one was injured, but we may not be so fortunate if this happens again.
"Trains travel at high speeds and there can be some serious consequences when they strike these objects deliberately placed on the line."
British Transport Police are currently reviewing CCTV in the area and speaking to witnesses of the incident.
