A 10-year-old girl was air-lifted to Sheffield Children's Hospital after a car crash the A1 yesterday evening at about 5.45pm.
A black Ford KA veered off the busy trunk road near Junction 34, by Blyth.
The girl remains in a serious, but stable condition alongside a nine-year-old boy who suffered minor injuries.
A 35-year-old woman, who also had minor injuries following the accident, has been taken to Sheffield's Northern General Hospital.
The A1 was closed heading north until around 12.30am as police examined the scene.
Nottinghamshire Police are asking witnesses to call 101, quoting incident 647 of Saturday 4 May 2013, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
