A NOTTS project has received the backing of a £6 million scheme to mark 100 years since the start of the First World War.
The Heritage Lottery Fund is today launching "First World War: then and now" – a small grants programme to help communities planning to recognise the milestone in 2014.
Among projects set to benefit from the multi-million pound fund is "Keeping the Home Fires Burning?" in Flintham.
Supported by a £16,710 grant, the Flintham Society has recruited volunteers to research, record and display historic material which focuses on those left behind while the men of the village went off to fight in France.
The project will culminate in an exhibition at the village hall in 2015.
The Heritage Lottery Fund is making at least £1million available per year until 2019, providing grants between £3,000 and £10,000.
The scheme is being launched at the House of Commons.
Culture Secretary Maria Miller said: "It is completely right that we mark the centenary of the First World War with a national programme capturing our national spirit and saying something about who we are as a people.
"But what we do also needs to help create an enduring cultural and educational legacy for communities."
