REVELLERS have made more than 260 complaints to police about doormen in Nottingham.

In the last three years, 261 accusations were made against door staff.

And the staff themselves reported 86 incidents to police in the same period.

James Loach, a former doorman who has now set up his own security company AXR UK, believes the figures scratch the surface of a bigger problem – a lack of training and poorly paid positions.

"I don't think the education and the training that is currently offered is enough for door supervisors to know how to deal with difficult customers," said Mr Loach.

"I think the whole training and assessment process needs to be addressed."

Notts Police revealed the figures under the Freedom of Information Act.

However, not all of the reported crimes led to a conviction.

Mike Knight, chairman of the city centre's Club, Pub and Hotel Watch, said it was customers who cause problems, not door staff.

He said: "I would challenge the figures because the trouble with door supervisors is that if they throw someone out then that person will say they have been assaulted and report it to police when all doormen are doing is their job."
