THE FINISHING touches are being added to the Big Lunch and the Feed 1000 event due to be held this weekend. On Sunday, June 2, at Bestwood Country Park, the event aims to highlight the amount of food an average family wastes in a year by making 1,000 meals out of it and providing a free lunch. Organised by Veolia Environmental Services (Nottinghamshire's waste contractors) and Nottinghamshire County Council, they are encouraging guests to be waste aware at the event. They are asking residents to get involved by:• Trying to incorporate leftovers or food that needs using up into any picnics you bring – check out the recipes on www.lovefoodhatewaste.com for ideas• Bringing your own plates, cups and cutlery to save having lots of paper plates and plastic to throw away• Trying to use reusable containers to carry your picnic – foil, cling film and sandwich bags aren't always recyclable• Nominating a compost champion in your group to take charge of fruit skins and vegetable peelings to put into a compost bin or food digester. The event is free to attend from 11am to 3pm.
