POLICE officers in Ilkeston have biked 89 miles to raise more than £300 for the air ambulance.
PCSO Robert Webb, sergeant John Troup and PC Simon Doar cycled from their base at Ilkeston Police Station to Skegness in seven hours on Sunday, May 26.
They were joined by colleagues who provided refreshments and encouragement at several points along the way.
All money raised was donated to the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance.
Sgt Troup, who manages five policing teams, said they chose the air ambulance because of the valuable work it does and the fact it survives from sponsorship money.
"We have all been to incidents where people's lives have been saved by the attendance of air ambulance," he said.
"There were no real incidents of note other than Simon feeling like he couldn't go on at Grantham but he buckled down, cycled through it and went on to complete the ride.
"I did count how many flies I swallowed on the way to keep me occupied and it was a total of seven with the worst being a bluebottle at about the 70 mile mark."
