COMMUNITY groups in the running for a share of £35,000 will be revealed in the Post from Monday.

And successful organisations can raise awareness of the good work they do by shouting about their cause on our Facebook page.

As well as giving charities a boost through cash, the Post and Nottingham Building Society's Cash For Your Community campaign also aims to promote charities by telling readers how they help our county.

This year, to maximise the coverage we give to all groups, we are urging them to visit our Facebook page and tell the 4,025 people who 'like' it all about their work.

For St Paul's soup kitchen, in Lenton, the coverage in the paper during previous campaigns has been vital.

The charity, based at St Paul's Church in Lenton Boulevard, serves soup, bread, tea, coffee and biscuits to the homeless every day between 11am and 3pm.

After an article in the Post in 2011 they received donations from people who read it.

Organiser Jacqueline Hall said: "Anywhere we can get the word out is so worth it because people appear with boxes of food for us because they have read about us and want to help. We are voluntarily-run so depend on that completely and it is quite surprising how many people are inspired to donate just by hearing about us."

Home-Start Nottingham is also delighted with how being involved in Cash For Your Community has helped its profile.

The charity supports parents with young children who are struggling to cope by sending volunteers into their homes to help, listen and advise.

Fundraiser Barbara Parish said: "You can't underestimate or undervalue the presence that the Post has given us.

"When I first joined Home-Start people didn't know what it was, so raising awareness about what we do is critical. The more people who know, the better chance we have of getting the funds we need to keep going."

Groups can also visit the Facebook page for updates about the Cash For Your Community campaign.

Organisations that have applied should also start buying the paper from Monday to see if they have been successful.

We will be revealing 12 groups every day, with the final 12 being revealed on Saturday, June 15. Readers can then collect coupons for their chosen group from Monday, June 17.

The more coupons a group receives, the bigger their share of the £35,000 will be.

This year the three top collectors will also receive a £1,000 bonus.

Our Lady's Parent And Toddler group, in Bulwell, has used the money for more storage space, toys, games and soft play equipment for the group.
