BOB White (First Person, May 29), deserves a medal for his continued battle to promote Robin Hood.
From as far back as 1979, when I worked with him at Nottingham City Council's public relations office, he has fought to preserve the legend that is Robin.
Something must be done to improve the Castle (surely the biggest disappointment on Earth to thousands of visitors), even if on a temporary measure.
I remember a few years ago showing some Norwegian guests around the city one bank holiday and they were mystified to discover how little there was to see about Robin Hood – even the statue was under wraps that day!
We are missing a huge opportunity to boost local business, so come on city council – as Bob says "a significant change of attitude is required"!

THE News from the Courts columns found in the latter pages of the Nottingham Post are a constant source of interest.
A latest batch has a quota of fines for speeding. Driving over the limit and at speed is undeniably one of the prime reasons for accidents and is a killer. No one would argue with that. However, after 55 years of motoring without causing an accident and having one speeding offence, I feel able to comment. My offence by the way was 1mph above the threshold and was incurred on a 40mph dual carriageway after I had driven perfectly safely around 35 miles on a motorway.
Most of the reports simply state that the offenders were exceeding the 30mph limit. Now at the risk of giving space for the usual offenders to pick up their "nasty-pens" to vent their spleens, accuse me of being past it and advising me to sell my motor car, I would simply ask that the exact speed is stated to allow us to gauge just how deserving the driver was of the penalty given.

WOULD you please pass on a message to your readers and the local council not to cut hedges, bushes and trees this time of year. Birds will be nesting and, although you cannot see them, they are hiding themselves away from predators. From March to September is not advisable as some even have a second brood. A wild bird is fully protected by the law so if you want to tidy your garden, please do it September to March.
