A MAN who kidnapped and shot a former supermarket worker has been jailed for life.
Damien Fogo showed no emotion as he was convicted of killing Germaine Edwards after a trial at Nottingham Crown Court.
Judge Michael Stokes told Fogo, 32, previously of Hungerhill Gardens, St Ann's, it was a deliberate and cold-blooded murder.
Fogo had been given a lift by Mr Edwards and his friend Dwayne Bryan in a rented silver Ford Fiesta car to Balloon Woods Estate, in Wollaton Vale, on Saturday, November 17, last year.
Claiming he needed to pick up cash and keys, both men had waited for Fogo's return, only to be confronted by him with a loaded gun.
Judge Stokes ordered Fogo serve a minimum of 32 years before he could be considered for parole.
He said: "As the jury found, Damien Fogo, you left Germaine Edward's motor car for the single purpose of acquiring a firearm.
"Whatever your motive had been, whether it was robbery or something more sinister, you deliberately took into your possession a loaded firearm.
"You effectively kidnapped them."
Fogo told Mr Bryan to drive and allegedly said: "Right, I need some money. I want ten grand. I'm not going back to prison."
Mr Bryan was ordered to drive the Ford Fiesta but escaped when he stalled outside Broxtowe Police Station, leaving his long-time friend in the car.
Fogo got into the driver's seat and drove to Fairnley Road in Bilborough, where he shot 28-year-old Mr Edwards, of Chingford Road, Bilborough.
The court heard that Mr Edwards had been due to receive £10,000 redundancy money from his job at the Co-op in St Ann's, and had a partner and young daughter.
His girlfriend Ashli Watson, said after Fogo was convicted: "Germaine was such an amazing man with a good heart. Everyone that knew him loved him. I won't ever be able to accept that he is gone."
Detective Chief Inspector Tony Heydon, who led the inquiry, said: "Fogo is a dangerous man who has been involved in violent crimes for many years. Nottingham is a safer place without him.
"It is significant that no friends or family turned up to support him in court. His parents left the country rather than see him in the dock. Now he will spend the next 32 years alone."
Fogo was also given a ten-year sentence for trying to rob Mr Edwards and Mr Bryan, and 12 years for possessing the firearm. These will run concurrently alongside his life sentence.
