UP to 61 student flats could be created in former city centre office block. Forshaw Land have asked Nottingham City Council for permission to transform Hally House office block in Hounds Gate in to self-contained flats. If approved, the flats will take the form of single person studios, each containing a study area, sleeping area, small kitchen, and en-suite toilet and shower room. There will also be a communal lounge and a small gymnasium with exercise machines on the ground floor. Alterations to the external fabric of the building and to its appearance are minimal. The Design and Access statement which accompanies the planning application states: "The proposal for student accommodation relates to the University of Nottingham in particular, and to the demand by the more mature student for accommodation 'off campus'. "The use of the building for student accommodation brings residential use into the city centre with minimal impact on family housing, and with positive economic benefit to the central shopping and entertainment areas." To view or comment on the application see the planning section on www.nottinghamcity.gov.uk and enter reference number 13/01072/PFUL3.
