EYEWITNESSES say a fully clothed woman carrying a handbag was pulled out of the river Trent yesterday. Police confirmed that the woman had gone into the water in the Victoria Embankment in The Meadows area. The woman was treated after the incident, which occurred around 3.50pm, in an ambulance. Alex Jeffrey, who works nearby saw the incident. The -year-old of Henry Road, West Bridgford said: "She must have gone in purposefully. "She swam across from the Embankment side to County Hall and then the police arrived and she swam back towards the other side - she swam away from them. "There were a few people gathered around watching - she was fully clothed and had a handbag with her. It was crazy. "It looked like some sort of stunt at first until the police came." Eva Mitchell, who is a student at the West Bridgford School also saw the incident. The 17-year-old said: "A lot of police men came running from the Trent Bridge area and there was a woman in the river. A police man jumped in and brought her out. "She looked like she was drowning. "There were quite a few people watching by the river."
