A CIVIC reception is to be held next week in honour of boxing hero Carl Froch being crowned super-middleweight world champion.
Nottingham City Council is hosting the event to mark his achievement at the Council House on Thursday, June 20.
It follows his 12-round out against his Danish rival Mikkel Kessler at London's O2 Arena last month, which saw him retain his IBF super-middleweight title and secure the WBF super-middleweight title, therefore unifying the two titles.
Carl will be welcomed by the Lord Mayor of Nottingham Merlita Bryan and other dignitaries gathered in his honour.
Fans can gather in the Old Market Square to get a chance to see the 35-year-old boxer who is expected to arrive from around 6.25pm, and appear on the Council House balcony with his boxing belts to address the crowd at around 7.15pm. At around 7.45pm it is hoped he will meet some of his fans and sign autographs.
Lord Mayor Councillor Bryan said: "Carl is a fantastic sportsman and a great ambassador for Nottingham and I'm delighted to mark his latest success in unifying the super-middleweight championships of the world. It also provides Carl with an opportunity to greet his many local fans and thank them for their support."
City Council Leader Jon Collins, added: "We're really proud of Carl and the way he represents Nottingham around the world, and pleased to give his fans a chance to share in his glory in his hometown."
