BULWELL Forest is gearing up for a week of action as a packed programme of events is lined up. The schedule boasts "something for everyone" in the week starting Saturday, June 22, and including an 'All Things Green' event at Rise Park Community Centre. Anyone can bring unwanted items from bikes to small household electrical goods for recycling. Visitors are also encouraged to bring along gas and electric bills to explore cheaper tariffs. There is also an opportunity to talk about transport issues with TravelRight. The programme includes a walking festival, exercise classes, and the chance to try new clubs, including the Scouts, toddler groups and choirs. Bulwell Forest councillor Alan Clark said: "The events taking place in Bulwell Forest ward show how much is going on in our community. "We so often hear people say there is nothing to do – this week showcases how engaged our community is." Bulwell Forest Garden on Austin Street is offering their usual range of activities throughout the week, including seed planting in a new polytunnel, helping to plan a new sensory garden and wildlife watching. Garden committee chairwoman Barbara Bates said: "We put a lot of children's activities on over the school holidays and tend to get really good numbers, but what we're trying to do is raise the awareness of the garden generally, so older people can pop down and have a look at what's going on. " Other options during the week include a family support drop-in session at Bulwell Forest Children's Centre a chance to find out how to order smartwater, set up a neighbourhood watch and talk to the Top Valley Community Centre and the neighbourhood police team. Exercise classes include aqua zumba, pole fitness and boxercise, as well as free 12-week programme Go4It! starting at Southglade Leisure Centre. Bulwell Forest resident Trish Wadsworth, 53, of St. Andrews Close, said: "We are looking at going to Bulwell Forest Garden, I've driven past a few times but not actually been. "I didn't realise there was a Bulwell Forest walking group or know that they meet on a regular basis – the week of action highlights things happening in a focused, intense way, and if anybody wants to continue after this week they can." The week closes on Saturday, June 29, with Fun on the Forest at Bulwell Forest recreation ground, a volunteer-organised event with stalls and free activities including face painting, a driving range provided by Bulwell Forest Golf Club, and a free bouncy castle and smoothie bike. A 'food court' will offer fast food, healthy options and Asian cuisine, as well as doughnuts, a cake stall and an ice cream van. Entertainment will be provided by Bulwell Riverside choir and the boys and girls brigade marching band. For more information, ring 0115 883 3729 or email celia.knight@nottinghamcity.gov.uk.
