A MOTHER is urging other parents to learn first aid after her daughter choked on a lolly and she didn't know what to do.
Siobhan Fullwood, 44, of Rainworth said her daughter Grace was eating a lollipop, which came off the stick.
The stick got stuck in her throat and she began gasping for breath.
The mother of two admits that at the time she didn't know what to do, but luckily freed the obstruction and saved her daughter.
Mrs Fullwood said: "I was really panicking. When it's your own daughter you just have to do whatever you can to help her.
"Thankfully the thrusts dislodged the lollipop and she took a huge gasp and started crying. I hate to think what could have happened, we could have lost her."
After the incident, which happened three years ago when Grave was five, Siobhan decided that she would never allow a similar situation to happen again and enrolled on a free first-aid course with St John Ambulance.
According to St John Ambulance more than half of parents in Nottingham lack the skills to save their child in the event of a life-threatening accident.
Mrs Fullwood added: "Now I have had the training I know exactly what to do if I was faced with this situation, or any other medical emergency, in the future.
"I would recommend to all parents to learn first aid – it really is an essential and simple skill that everyone should have and it can help save lives."
