SIX more people have contacted police about an ongoing investigation into abuse at former children's homes in Notts.

The Post reported on Saturday how the inquiry which begun in 2011 into allegations relating to Beechwood Community house, Mapperley, had widened to include claims at four more former homes.

Officers working on the investigation, Operation Daybreak, said they had identified 56 alleged victims of sexual or physical abuse.

The claims, which all relate to former council-run homes, date from 1973 to 2000.

The four other former homes are Bracken House, which was in Thames Street, Bulwell, and is now a block of flats; Ranskill Gardens, Bestwood, which is boarded up; Wood Nook, in Beechdale Road, Beechdale, now demolished; and Risley Hall, Derbyshire, which is now a hotel.

Police said yesterday they had received six phone calls since Saturday.

One involved both a fresh claim about abuse at Beechwood and a claim about Bracken House.

Police were still making inquiries into the other five calls to gather more information, a force spokeswoman said.

Six people have also contacted the Post since the story broke on Saturday.

Twelve people have been questioned as part of Operation Daybreak so far. Five were arrested but later released with no further action.

A statement released on Saturday from the chairman of Nottingham City Safeguarding Children Board, Paul Burnett, and the vice-chairman of Notts County Safeguarding Children Board, Julie Gardner, read: "We are aware of a number of historic allegations relating to issues at Beechwood Community Home and other related establishments and, where identified, appropriate actions have been taken.

"A full and robust investigation led by the police and involving relevant agencies is being undertaken."

A Notts Police spokeswoman said anyone with allegations relevant to the inquiry should contact the force on 101.
