BUS passengers were left stranded after a mix-up caused by overrunning tram construction works.
A shuttle bus has been running in Ruddington Lane, Wilford, since last October when a section of the road closed for work to accommodate the new tram line to Clifton.
The service provided a link for users of Trent Barton's Ruddington Connection bus, which usually stops along Ruddington Lane but has been diverted due to the work.
Trent Barton stopped running the shuttle bus over the weekend, stating it had been told the road would be fully reopened by then.
But commuters found the road still closed to through traffic yesterday, meaning that the Ruddington Connection could not resume its normal route – and passengers were also left without the shuttle service.
Alex Hornby, commercial director at Trent Barton, said: "We have now been asked to change the reintroduction date of the usual Ruddington Connection route five times this year due to the over-running of these works.
"This is obviously causing us and our customers great frustration, for which we sincerely apologise.
"We anticipated that the road would reopen following further delays, and due to the ensuing confusion, we expected that normal service would resume."
The delay in reopening Ruddington Lane between Fieldway and the entrance to Nottingham South and Wilford Industrial Estate is the latest to have affected the project in recent months. The work had originally been due to be completed at the end of March but was extended to mid-May due to bad winter weather, a redesign of utility diversions and road layout changes.
Tram contractor Taylor Woodrow Alstom then said it expected the road to reopen in July after further delays.
Access to the industrial estate from the Fieldway side resumed earlier this month, but the full opening has now been put back into August.
Trent Barton has previously said the prolonged closure has resulted in a drop in passengers on the Ruddington Connection.
Clifton North city councillor Roger Steel received a number of complaints from residents following the shuttle bus mix-up.
He said he had sought assurances that the shuttle bus service will continue, and has been told that Ruddington Lane will reopen fully on Monday, August 5.
Mr Steel said: "My constituents have been greatly inconvenienced."
Nottingham City Council has been funding the temporary shuttle service.
Chris Deas, project director for Nottingham City Council, said: "We will continue to fund a temporary shuttle service to serve Ruddington Lane until the road reopens, and are unsure as to why the service was temporarily withdrawn over the weekend as the road remains closed."
