A NEW primary school building was being opened today.

Southwold Primary's £366,000 building in Radford has expanded from 180 to 210 pupils.

The new building has an additional classroom, a community room, toilets, locker storage and changing area.

In addition to the new classroom, the school now has a multi-purpose space which can be used as a break-out area, for art, small groups or parents' room. In the evenings it is available to the community.

Councillor David Mellen, portfolio holder for children's services at the city council, said: "The new building blends in well with the main school and as well as offering valuable extra places, it will bring additional benefits for the community. This is one of a number of expansions and it's a pleasure to be expanding another of the city's great schools and providing places for more children to thrive."

Nottingham South MP Lilian Greenwood was due to open the building and unveil a mosaic.
