DOCTORS are urging people in Erewash to raise cash for a children's cancer charity in the run-up to Christmas.
They want people in Ilkeston, Long Eaton and nearby villages to mark Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in December by raising money for the Children's Cancer and Leukaemia Group.
This is made up of clinical experts who provide NHS treatment and carry out research.
Dr Avi Bhatia, chairman of Erewash Clinical Commissioning Group, says: "If you're a fitness fan, why not consider tackling a half marathon or 10k run? You could organise a sponsored bike ride or brave a parachute jump if you're a real daredevil. If you're not an adrenaline junkie, you could organise a cake sale or dress-down day at work. For lots of other fundraising ideas, visit www.cclg.org.uk."
The number of children developing cancer has hardly changed in 40 years but survival rates have soared because of advances in treatment. Seven out of 10 children with cancer are now cured, compared with three in ten four decades ago.
