1920 – Reg Simpson was born in Sherwood Rise on February 27.
1940 – He made his Notts debut at Trent Bridge in July against the RAF, making 65 out of Notts' score of 114. He went on to join the RAF and an overseas posting limited his county cricket.
1944 – In the autumn he was posted in India.
1948 – He was selected as 12th man for England.
1948-49 – He joined the MCC side on a winter tour to South Africa.
1949 – He made more than 2,000 runs in a season for the first time.
1950 – He was the leading English batsman.
1950-51 – He toured Australia with England, a series which ended with England's first post-war victory against their rivals in Melbourne, where Reg made his Test best 156 not out.
1963 – He retired playing for Notts, having hit 30,546 runs including 64 hundreds.
