Mr Hallam is the local area inspector for Rushcliffe.
He joined the force after serving in the armed forces, starting out as a Police Constable at Clifton.
He also worked St Ann's, The Meadows and Radford Road, in both uniform response and beat manager roles.
After becoming a detective, he went on to lead the public protection unit and the intelligence unit.
Both were arrested at separate locations on Tuesday, November 19.
Mr Hallam has been arrested on suspicion of assisting and encouraging fraud by false representation, and misconduct in a public office.
Mrs Hallam was arrested on suspicion of committing fraud by false representation.
A Notts Police spokeswoman said: "Both officers have been bailed following questioning and have been suspended from duty."
