NOTTINGHAM Panthers have signed their second defenceman in as many days after they brought in experienced American Brian Schmidt. The 32-year-old has extensive American Hockey League and top flight European experience on his resume. The 32-year-old is described by Panthers' head coach Corey Neilson, who signed Cody Wild this week, as "a big defensive guy who moves well and is good on the puck." As well as bringing his wealth of experience to the Panthers' blueline he will also be studying for a masters degree at Loughborough University. That playing experience includes stints at Merrimack College as well as Providence Bruins, Manchester Monarchs and Milwaukee Admirals in the AHL plus Reading and Cincinnati in the East Coast Hockey League. He played at Kassel and Munich in the DEL in Germany and also at Sonderjysk in Denmark. Last year he iced with Ljublijana in Austria, picked up an injury but came back at Storhamar in Norway where he had 20 regular season games and a further 12 in the play-offs. His totals include over a hundred games at the AHL level and nearly a hundred in the highly rated DEL. He was a Kelly Cup Champion in the Coast.
