NOTTINGHAM high jumper Isobel Pooley set a new personal best on her way to claiming silver at the Commonwealth Games.

The 21-year-old bettered her previous record of 1.91 metres to notch 1.92, which saw her finish second behind Australian Eleanor Patterson.

Pooley had cleared 1.78, 1.82, 1.86, 1.89 and then 1.92 at the first attempts, but matching Patterson's 1.94 proved just beyond her.

Saint Lucia's Levern Spencer took the bronze medal.

Meanwhile, Sutton-in-Ashfield born Stephen Lisgo finished eighth in the final of the men's 3000m Steeplechase and fellow Scot Jake Wightman, who was born in Nottingham, failed to qualify from the 1500m heats.

In hockey, Scotland and Beeston duo Jamie Cachia and Gordon McIntyre were unable to end the Games on a winning note as they fell 2-1 to Malaysia.

Captain Chris Grassick had put the host nation in front, but Malaysia were quick to hit back in the classification match.

The result means Scotland finish in eighth place in the tournament.
