Sherwood: A thief has been jailed for 16 months after leaving DNA on a bottle of booze at the house he had broken into. Jan Grzywna, of Myrtle Avenue, Forest Fields, left half a bottle of Martell brandy in the back garden of the home in Hucknall Road after he broke in through a side window. Despite making off with thousands of pounds of gold jewellery, the 56-year-old left the bottle behind. Detective Sergeant Paul Lefford said: "Grzywna not only thought he was entitled to break into this house, he had the audacity to stick around and sample the fruits of his labour.

Clifton: Burglars stole an xBox computer games console and a jewellery box after breaking into a house in Inglewood Road. The break-in happened between 8.45am and 1pm on Friday. It is believed the burglars managed to get in through a rear ground-floor window. Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 and quote incident number 431-01082014.

Clifton: A TomTom sat-nav unit was stolen from a parked car. The thief smashed the driver's window of the car, which was parked in Lanthwaite Close, between 10.30pm on Friday and 7.40am on Saturday. Call Notts Police on 101 and quote incident number 251-02082014.

Tibshelf: Computer game consoles were among items taken in a burglary at a house in Mansfield Road. Raiders forced open the bottom panel of a back door to get into the house between 10.20am and 3.50pm on Friday. They searched the house and took a Nintendo Wii, an xBox 360, a DVD recorder, two digital cameras, a projector, items of jewellery, bottles of wine and cans of beer. Anyone with information should call Derbyshire Police on 101, quoting crime number 32003/14.
