ALAN Judge wants to be a great goalscorer for Notts County – not just a scorer of great goals.
The Irish midfielder, 24, has scored 13 times for the Magpies and yet amazingly only three of those were from inside the penalty area, against Accrington in the FA Cup last season and Bury and Colchester United in League One this season.
The rest of them have been wonder strikes.
His latest long-range thunderbolt was in their 1-0 league win against Swindon Town at Meadow Lane, as he seized onto a flick-on from new-signing Chris Iwelumo and smashed the ball into the net from 25 yards, but afterwards he said: "I'd like to score more tap-ins!"
He has also revealed he is even doing extra training with ex-QPR, Arsenal and Ipswich Town striker Chris Kiwomya, who is a coach at the club, in an attempt to learn how to get into the box more and become a prolific marksman, like his team-mate Jeff Hughes, who scored a career-record 17 goals last season.
"If I keep scoring from long range I will be happy, but I'd like to get a few more from inside the box," he said.
"Chris was a good striker when he played so I've been working with him, as well as the other coaches, because he knows how to get me into the right areas.
"I'm getting a few sniffs in and around the box, but I've just got to get it into my mind to get in there more.
"If you look at Jeff, he's always there and I need that mentality. You could say I'm looking for more Jeff Hughes goals.
"I want to get in there and on the end of knock downs for a few tap-ins.
"I did it at Colchester, but I have got to do it more often."
