PEOPLE are being asked to shop a drink-driver this Christmas as Notts Police vow to clamp down on the problem.
Chief Inspector Andy Charlton is urging people to call police if they suspect motorists are drunk – or about to get behind the wheel after having a drink.
Officers will also be springing more roadside checks on drivers this year, as well as following up calls from concerned members of the public.
Mr Charlton said: "We do get a significant number of calls where people are following behind a car and they call in. I would encourage people to do this if they suspect someone is not in a fit state to drive."
Last year, 152 people were arrested during the festive season for drink-driving in Notts.
An investigation by the Post of those who went through Nottingham Magistrates' Court showed that 45 drivers received more than 75 years in bans between them – and fines totalling more than £8,000.
Our None for the Road campaign named and shamed drivers caught drink-driving last December.
We will be doing the same again this year.
Piotr Moskal, 34, of Sneinton, hopes people will think twice after being convicted of drink-driving himself.
He said: "I was very stupid. Now I know I could have killed someone. I would say to anyone: do not drink and drive."
Piotr received a four-year ban after crashing into a building.
