MANSFIELD Town winger Sam Clucas will not be joining local rivals Chesterfield after the two clubs failed to agree on a price.
The League One club last week made an approach for last season's top scorer for the Stags, with discussions ongoing since.
Mansfield boss Paul Cox says a deal came close to being reached, but after speaking to chairman John Radford last night, the club have 'drawn a line' under the saga.
"Sam's going to be stopping," said Cox.
"We didn't get anywhere with any sort of negotiations with the club involved. Nobody's met our valuation of the player.
"I spoke to the chairman last night and we're going to draw a line under it and move on.
"We want to keep him.
"With the club in question, we couldn't agree a valuation, so we agreed last night we would just move on.
"Anything can happen in football. I'm not discounting the other 91 league clubs that could come in before the window closes.
"But with the club in question, we've drawn a line under it."
